Who We Are: We are Hendersonville and Etowah, North Carolina’s only Aikido Self Defense School offering a variety of classes and programs for all ages and abilities.
Our chief instructor is Master Darren Norris.
Master Norris is often featured in leading martial arts magazines, radio shows and television.
What Is Aikido: It is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba. It is an art involving some throws and joint locks that are derived from Jujitsu the parent art of Aikido. Aikido focuses not on punching or kicking opponents for self defense, but rather on using their own energy to gain control of them or to throw them away from you. It is not a static art, but places great emphasis on motion and the dynamics of body movement.
Why Learn Aikido in Etowah: Aikido practitioners will find what they are looking for, whether it is applicable self-defense technique, spiritual enlightenment, physical health or peace of mind.
Our teacher, Master Darren Norris emphasized the self defense aspects of this art along with moral and spiritual development, placing great weight on the development of harmony and peace.
Aikido is losely translated as “The Way of Harmony of the Spirit” in English. Master Norris says: “Although the idea of a martial discipline striving for peace and harmony may seem paradoxical, it is the most basic tenet of the self defense art of Aikido as it is traditionally taught.
